It has been a massive couple of weeks here at Modern World. 

Last week saw Dusso and the Holy Smokes in the studios tracking two songs with Greg Haver and Clint Murphy. They were such a solid band with some great tunes.

This week we've tracked three more songs for the Alen Seed album. That brings us to 17 songs in 6 months! What an effort. We're all really looking forward to hearing the final mixes in the very near furture.

Alen had Martin Carr of The Boo Radleys and Perry from Pendulum in helping with the last tracks for the album. Both musicians were brilliant to have in the studio.

The Alen Seed album has been stretched out across the last few months with multiple musicians coming in to contribute to the project. Greg Haver and Clint Murphy have put in a great effort of time to bring this all together and this week we're on to vocals. 

We have nine songs to track vocals to along with backing vocals and harmonies. It's been a big project and feels as though we are nearing the end.

Welsh rockers Eric Unseen are in Modern World this week laying down three tracks with Clint Murphy and Greg Haver. The quartet are staying in the MW accommodation during their time. Today we're finishing off guitars before laying into vocals! Check out their site below for more info on the band.

Birmingham rockers Templeton pek are back in this week with Clint and Greg mixing their EP we've tracked over the last few months.

We're currently 3 1/2 tracks down with one to go this evening!

Everything is coming together nicely and the tracks are sounding huge! There's been a really good vibe in the studio the last few days after we began the week with the Vulcan String Section tracking strings to two of the songs.

Greg Haver and Clint Murphy have been booking studio time in abundance with session players from all across the country coming to work on sessions and add their creativity to the mix.

Templeton Pek are fresh off their European tour with Rise Against. The band have some new toys and are getting the chance to test them out this week as we track the new EP!

Johnny Rotten's band of the last 33 years have been in MW over the weekend mixing their upcoming album with visiting engineer James Towler.

The album is their first in 18 years and we can assure you it is worth the wait! Think of all the different things that have happened since the last album was released! They have kept the album quite raw and emtional. Wether you are a seasoned PiL fan or just getting into them, this album has something for everyone and is sure to make heads turn.

Aloe Blaccs touring band The Grand Scheme, left Modern World Friday night after four days of soulful jamming and tracking.

The six piece band enlisted in house engineer Mike Nyandoro to run the session while the band self produced.

All songs were tracked live including a live brass section with minimal overdubs.

The result, an awe inspiring mix of funk, jazz, soul and hip hop.

The band booked in as they finished off a 2 1/2 month tour of Europe.

The weekend gone has seen Alen Seed enter the Modern World halls for the first time. Alen is booked in for blocks of writing with different musicians over the next few months followed by recording and mixing of his new album.

The weekend saw a varied bunch of top musicians from around the country descend on MW to begin the process. So far, so good.

Former MW engineer Nick Poortman has been keeping himself busy back in New Zealand with his latest creation; a website that offers bands the chance to submit a commercially acceptable recording to go on an album that will be released and sold for charity. The money raised will go to the Red Cross Christchurch appeal.

Irish band Seven Days were in for a week with producer Greg Haver and engineer Clint Murphy recording and mixing tracks for an upcoming EP

We recently had the pleasure to host a microphone demo day for Se Electronics and their distributor Sonic Distribution.

The main focus of the demo was to showcase the new Rupert Neve / Se Electronics RNR1 ribbon microphone.

The mic went went against our mic collection which include Sony C800-G/Telefunken U47/soundelux 251/Blue Bottle/Neumann M149 and AEA R92 and R88.

Kiwi mix guru Clint Murphy has mixed new single entitled "NO" from New Zealand artist Iva Lamkum.

"No" is the first single to be taken from Iva Lamkum's forthcoming debut album due to be released in 2010.

Modern World hosted a monitor review/shootout between Events new Opal nearfield monitors and similar priced competitors for their latest issue.

Nigerian rapper Blackgate recorded his new single 'So Sweet' with engineer Ben Muscat.

'So Sweet'(co-produced and mixed by Ben Muscat) has also achieved commercial success in Nigeria.

The Modern World team would like to congratulate owner Nick Cowan and Musician Ben Travers on completing the toughest triathlon in the world (IRONMAN LANZAROTE) which took place on Saturday 23/05/09.

After months of physical and nutritional discipline Nick completed the iron in 14:38:25.

Nick also managed to hit his £5000 fund raising target for the 'Hope For Tomorrow' charity.

Congratulations yet again on this incredible and inspirational achievement.

On Saturday 23rd May, MW owner Nick will compete in the Ironman Lanzarote. After 20 months of training, 65 lbs of fat loss (and driving everyone in the studio round the bend), Nick hopes to complete the 3.8 km open sea swim, 180 km bike and the marathon within the time limit of 17 hours. The Ironman Lanzarote is the hardest Ironman in the world...period!

All proceeds raised go to www.hopefortomorrow.co.uk a national charity that raises money towards mobile chemo units, enabling patients to be treated closer to their home.

Also joining us from New Zealand is our new assistant Nick, who spent a year in one of New Zealand's top studios as an assistant after completing an engineering course at SAE college in New Zealand. During his time at SAE Nick was voted student of the year.

London based band 'The Last Grand' record at Modern World with producer Greg Haver. The track 'Alive' was recorded over two days and included a string quartet.

The band were so pleased...they've booked time in July and August to record their debut album!

Modern World Studios main live room now features a "variable acoustic" thanks to a system installed and operational this week. Six oak flutter board panels measuring 180 x 90cm can now be hung on the walls on a specially fitted rail, dramatically altering the acoustic of the room. Tests on drums, piano and acoustic guitar show a real difference and in combination with our isolation panels make for a very flexible space.

Over the past two weeks we had the pleasure of having members of Cherry Ghost in at Modern World for mixing with Dan Austin. From what we have heard so far, it looks to be a great record and will be having them back in shortly to finish mixing the album. We even got the pleasure of (front-man) Simon Aldred's friend Andy, who dazzled us with his magician skills.

Mixed at Modern World!

Over the course of almost a week, Jimi Cantera and his accompanying musicians recorded the first half of their album with us at Modern World. This project was engineered by Modern World's house engineers and was produced by Tony Briscoe.

The band combines elements of Spanish, Cuban, Jamaican, and African styles of music and instruments, creating a very unique sound. The band lineup consisted of Drums, Bass, various Percussion (and Percussionists), Kora, two Backing Vocalists and Jimi playing Guitar and singing Lead Vocals.

London based Hip Hop group 29th chapter have been working on their long awaited new album, and have recently begun mixing it here at Modern World Studios.

The group have released three albums, plus a recent album of remixes. The group is made up of four main vocalists - Mr Prince, Navigator, McGladius and Phonetix. 29th Chapter will continue working on the next album throughout 2009.

Johnny Mars is a highly established blues musician, who has been heavily involved with in music since his early childhood years, and has since played alongside B.B. King, Santana, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and many more. He recently came to Modern World Studios to record a new song "Dare to Dream" with producer Tony Briscoe.Johnny is heavily involved in introducing music to school kids, and received UK national news coverage for his innovative approach to replace the recorder with the harmonica to teach music to students in schools in the Portsmouth area."Dare to Dream" features vocals from approximately 53 school pupils. With guidance from Frank - the school's musical director - all of the school pupils managed to lay down their vocals in one afternoon.

Described by Chaka Khan as: 'The Baddest Guitarist on the Planet,' Ian Siegal records his new album at Modern World. Produced by legendary Blues guitarist Matt Schofield and engineered by our own Ben Muscat, Ian's new album for Nugene Records looks set to be a cracker!

Detroit Social Club record second single 'Sunshine People' with Producer Ed Buller (Suede, Pulp, The Raincoats, White Lies).

The single is due for release on 30 March 2009.

Guernsey's Mod-Rockers Thee Jenerators came to Modern World Studios to record their new album.

22-year-old singer/songwriter Chris Townsend is currently in the studio with top producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Opshop, Mel C, Catatonia) working on his debut album scheduled for release in early 2008.

His independently released 'What Are You Waiting For' EP has sold over 2000 copies reaching audiences all over the world thanks to online resources such as Myspace where Chris regularly features in the top UK artists and has had over 180,000 plays and 140,000 hits since February 2006.

The future looks bright for this young artist as he adds the finishing touches to his debut album.

Bristol based Hiflyer enter Modern World for three weeks with Producer Greg Haver to record new album.

Carrivick Sisters are 18 year old twin sisters Laura and Charlotte Carrivick from South Devon, England. They play a variety of bluegrass instruments (mainly guitar, mandolin, dobro and fiddle) with vocal harmonies and are both songwriters. Their musical interests have varied considerably through the years meaning that elements from a variety of genres are brought into their music. The twins have been playing at home together and busking for many years and started gigging as a duo these past couple of years. Their gigs have taken them as far afield as Holland and Austria as well as all over the UK.

Modern World Studios officially opened its doors this week for business and until December 31st are offering a promo rate to clients. Modern World will offer a full day for £400 ex vat without the cottage or £500 ex vat including it.

'We want to offer clients the opportunity to experience Modern World at a great price' explains owner Nick Cowan 'we have had a busy Summer with bookings stress-testing our desk and mics and the response from clients has been amazing. The quality of the room, our desk, outboards and mics has enabled our engineers to get some real quality recordings. Clients have also enjoyed our instrument collection, our hospitality and the location of the studio itself. We are booked for most of October and November but there are some slots available this month and in Decemember.

Dr Meaker is a Bristol-based producer who, with his live band, are one of UK's best up and coming soul/dance acts with a following that grows larger every day. Their debut album includes collaboration with Howie B, Massive Attack collaborators and a whole host of new, fresh talent. The 9 piece band have played at renowned events such as Glastonbury 2007, Bestival and Ashton Court Festival as well as legendary clubs throughout the world and are receiving airplay from the UK's major radio stations including BBC Radio 1 (Zane Lowe, Rob Da bank), BBC1 Xtra, Ministry of Sound. Dr Meaker have also just competed and won the Glastonbury Festival 2007 emerging talent competition, BBC new urban talent award (Sponsored by Fame Academy) and also the BBC unsigned gods of the pods.

Modern World Owner Nick Cowan enters Lanzarote Ironman May 2009

The Ironman has been described as the toughest race known to man. A 3.8 km open sea swim, a 180 km bike ride followed by a marathon (42.2 km run) with a cut off time of 17 hours. Out of all of the Ironman competitions in the world, Lanzarote has been described as the hardest of them all. The 25 mph winds, the huge mountain climbs, the boiling heat all contribute to its reputation as the world's toughest course. To compete you have to be super fit. Nick is 17 stone, has a 42 inch waist, a 28% fat count and has smoked 20 a day for 25 years.

Top UK Producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Melanie C, Catatonia) uses Modern World Studios to complete the final mixes for the new album by Moscow based band Dairy High. Greg was very at home in the studio with chocolate, popcorn, home-made baked potatoes and lazyboy seats. He also loved the warmth of the new Duality desk.

Norway's Espen Lind and producer Bjorn Nessjo track vintage Hammond for upcoming LP! Featuring the legendary keyboard talents of Jon Lord (Deep Purple) and an amazing 1965 B3 supplied by Londons Hammond Hire Co. Espens next album is set to break all Norwegian expectations!

Earlier in the year Modern World sponsored a local Battle of The Bands competition which included 20 entrants with an audience of around 400. Winning prize was a day at Modern World plus £300. The winners, Blue Noise, decided to double up and make it two days.

They recorded a 6 track demo which we are currently mixing for the boys. A young band with a lot of talent.

On Thursday 31st May Modern World Studios was invited to attend a very special function at Gibson Hall in London. Over the last two years leading designers, photographers, musicians and visual artist have been customizing electric guitars that could be exhibited around the world and later auctioned off to raise money for different charities. Forming part of the RockCouture project, 30 of these magnificent instruments have been 'on tour' with the Born To Rock ̇ exhibition, which has already broken attendance records at Galeries Lafayette in Paris, the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin and most recently Harrods in London. Modern World Studios had the honour of being one of 200 guests invited to the auction and although we didn't expect to bid or leave with any guitars, needless to say we now have 3 new additions to our collection of 45 guitars: Nick Rhodes Pixelator Fender Stratocaster with video screen, Graham Coxon Fender Strat with illustration Ronnie Wood - hand painted Stratocaster
